James Alcantara is a multifaceted musician who has written, performed and taught music in many different genres, including rock, jazz and classical. He enjoys all of these styles - and his truest, most personal, expressions are evident in his own compositions. James studied music composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Since graduating, he has been involved with a variety of performing artists including Justin Black, Suedehead, Powerflex 5, Dilana, The Mark Sage Band and The Perdido Jazz Ensemble. He has had the opportunity to play at venues such as The House of Blues and The Key Club, and open for acts including Styx and Social Distortion. During his stint with several bands, he has also gained a fair amount of recording experience.
In addition to his involvement with various performance groups, James has also maintained a busy schedule teaching private lessons. While he is primarily a piano teacher, he has the unique ability to incorporate theory, composition and improvisation into his instruction, as well as performance.
Throughout his life, James has been composing music. Only recently has he begun recording these works. This website gives James a place to share music that he has, until now, never shared before. Please enjoy this site and feel free to share it with your friends and family.
